What kind of response do you get when you are pregnant and overweight when going to the OB?

overweight
trieshanikki86 asked:

I am 320lbs and only 5’4. I have had one child and am pregnant with my second. I keep hearing of horror stories that some women have had with rude doctors and nurses who were very harsh about being overweight/obese with pregnancy. Is there a way to overcome the fear and inhibition you have about even going to the OB when you are bigger?

What is more important the health of your baby, or your fears of embarrassment?
I know how it can be, and yes some doctors and nurses are rude about it, but those are the ones that are kind of rude anyways. Find a doctor that treats you courteously and can address health concerns without making you feel terrible. It isn’t a bad thing at all to shop around a bit and find someone you are comfortable with bringing your new miracle into the world.

There’s really no such thing as obstetrician acts the way you said. and if they do they will surely lose some of their clients. just accept the fact that your weight will surely increase because your pregnant. on the other hand you should be happy bout it cause your about to be given another blessing that is the child in your womb. so cheer up..

My advise is take no notice!!! at the end of the day they have no right to make you feel uncomfortable about your size!!! i am a big lady my self 230lbs but all that matters to me is the welfare of my baby!!!

Being overweight is seen as being wrong or unhealthy but i have just been for a medical and i am perfectly healthy.

just remember to ignore those comments you dont want to hear and look after yourself

Congratsxxxx

sadly there is this “image” that people think every woman needs to look like. so what if you are overweight… it shouldn’t matter. everyone is different, and everyone has different opinions on individuals. go meet with doctors and find one you are comfortable with. To be honest, my advice to you is… get healthy. I am overweight myself, and I know how hard it is to lose the unwanted weight, but it truly is unhealthy to be overweight… and if you don’t do it for yourself, do it for your child and the blessing you have on the way. Don’t do it to fit the image… do it to preserve your life.

I’m about 5 stone overweight and none of my doctors or OB ever said anything to me about it! The only thing they did, fortunately, was a diabetic check up which showed that I was indeed diabetic. If they’d not have done that then my beautiful daughter’s life would have been at risk.

No-one ever commented or complained – it’s my body and they respected that!

Good luck and try not to worry!

PS, when I’m pregnant it’s the only time that I can eat whatever I want and barely gain a pound!! I’m 23 weeks and so far I’ve lost 7lb!!!

I am overweight by about 80 lbs, the doctors did mention it a little kinda like a gentle prod toward eating healthy and trying to go for walks. You never really know, the first doctor I saw was incredably rude and I couldn’t stand her and I decided that I wanted a different doctor. So my advice to you is to go to who you feel comfortable going to and then if they make you feel uncomfortable then dont stay, find someone who is interested in your baby not your weight! Congrats!
