What are the differences in attitude between overweight women and overweight men?

overweight
IamSpock asked:

Both can be jolly, both can seem bitter, but what are some gender-specific tendencies based on being more than a little overweight? As a guy, I’ve seen overweight women behave like brazen, desperate, inexperienced men do. It’s the only segment of the female population that acts this way, in my experience.
Some of you have humanized this more for me. Thank you. Good insight about more larger women than men just deciding to go out and have fun.

LOL you’re going to receive some hate for this question.

The entire range of behaviors and emotions, just like any other human. No reason to single them out because of their size.

One of my best mates is overweight but she is the best. I would do her in a heartbeat. I think often men can worry about things more and hide away whereas girls just go out have a laugh with their mates and dont worry

Edit: Thats what you should do Spock. Go out and have fun and not worry so much :) x

Women tend to be more focussed on their appearance so an over weight woman wouldnt be as happy as an over weight man, but this is just generally speaking. some men out their do care about their appearance and some women dont care about their appearance and they care about whats on the inside!! however, people cant really be characterized by their weight or size or appearance. just because a person is over weight doesnt mean they will automatically be nice or mean. everyone is different.

seems like both are likely to be insecure about their weight. that being said, i think one difference is that women are insecure even when they are not overweight, so those who are overweight are even more insecure.

Sarcaztic Baztard  on March 12th, 2009

An overweight man will admit that he is heavy, make no excuses for it, accept his devaluation in the mating game, and go from there.

An overweight woman will SCREEEEEAM that men should be attracted to her for what’s on the INSIDE,!! Why are men such PIIIIIIIIGS?

Then, she will tune to Oprah to find out more about how TERRIBLE men are for not being attracted to unattractive women.

Other than that, there is no difference. No difference at all.

Men tend to be in denial more than women. An overweight woman knows she is overweight- an overweight man says either the scale or the chart is wrong! I wish the US had less of both. Healthwise both will suffer.

Well with women, they are judged more on their weight. So men
do not have to deal with that kind of pressure as much.

I was going to answer but Sarcaztic Baztard put it better than I ever could have.

It is considerably more acceptable to be an overweight man that an overweight woman.

Because there is by far more pressure on women to be thin and attractive, they suffer when they do not fit the “ideal” body shape.

It may seem that bigger women have found a comfortable niche in society as the “brazen woman” like someone mentioned, but it’s a very difficult place to be. Eating disorders in coloured women have been related to the rejection of the “mammy” identity that they are so commonly labelled with. aka: they are tired of people seeing them as the character of fat housekeeper and treating them as such.

Overweight women are much more likely to be categorized only by their bodies, whereas a man’s weight problem is seen less negatiely by society.

Overweight women still get approached by men, while overweight men will have very limted options in dating. As Sarcaztic Baztard said, a lot of fat women seem like they demand that men be attracted to them and if they are not, are deemed shallow. But yet a fat guy will have virtually no options.

Fat women have hi-jacked and developed their own mantras.
- More cushion for the pushin’
- Warmth in the winter shade in the summer
- BBW – big beautiful woman
- They have taken over the terms “thick” and “curvy” to apply to their bodies

Fat men don’t have this ridiculousness, and though less delusional probably have less self-esteem. Having body image issues is something women of all shapes and sizes face so it only makes sense that fat women have a better handle on it then fat men.

I disagree with you. I think men are more likely to fetishize overweight women and find it a turn on then women with overweight men. I think women just because of the very design of our bodies can be sexy at any weight as men cannot control their lust for the female form. Women do not lust for the male form in quite the same way..So, I think actually overweight women are sexier and more of a turn on then overweight men. I venture so far as to say being overweight feminizes a man as women are the ones who contain extra layers of fat to insulate a baby. I am a uk 10 by the way, I just think that men actually if they were honest prefer a woman who is a real woman in personality, attitude and her treatment of him but who may be overweight then a woman who is a size 6 but who is so sterile and frigid and squemish about everything. Men find any woman sexy if she exudes said sexiness in everything she does..If her attitude is hot the shape of her body will be too.. Jennifer Hudson for example

Um

Maybe they behave differently because society judges them differently?

feeshy09  on March 25th, 2009

i think there is just more pressure in society on women to be thinner, so it’s a bigger deal when they are overweight. guys don’t seem to be as concerned, for the most part.
