Fillers can change in size. Good tip.

Does the paper or mag in query use funny fillers, facts or quotations? If that is so these make glorious and straightforward filler material! Because short fillers are short you are able to afford to draft some and send them off ‘on spec’. Send them to the publication’s editor and ask if they are interested.

Though they require more thought they are customarily far easier to sell than letters to the editor because editors are sometimes short of filler material and, unlike letters, do not get as many submissions. Good tip.
